The project I took part in, named The Data Driven Athlete, is part of the Digital Society School's traineeship program. Founded by the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, DSS is a design studio / educational institution which aims to train students and fresh graduates on design thinking and digital transformation.
The Data Driven Athlete project looks into the application of the Digital Twin technology in professional sports. A digital twin is a virtual representation of an object, a person or a process, created through accumulating large sets of data, and serving to predict future behaviour.
My project's team counted three more trainees besides me – product designer Valentina Marino, exhibition and motion designer Elisa Cocchi and psychologist Marketa Davidova. The idea behind our multi-disciplinary team was to create an environment for exchange of skills, knowledge, and points of view, which has it greatly impacted our work throughout the whole process.
The central design challenge for the semester was formulated in a discussion with the projects partners – HvA's Top Sport Academie and StreamingBuzz. The resulting problem statement we had to tackle sounded as follows:
